| René Kästli was born in 1942 and visited the school in Solothurn, Switzerland. He got his PhD in Economics from the University of Bern in 1970. From 1971 to 1974 he studied at four US American universities on a fellowship granted by the Swiss National Foundation (Schweizerischer Nationalfonds). He got his "Habiltation" degree in 1976 from the University of Bern ("theory of price dynamics"). In 1978 he became deputy head of the Economics department of the Swiss National Bank in Zurich. From 1982 to 1996 he was head of the Swiss National Bank in St. Gallen. He was then CEO of Liechtensteinische Landesbank, Vaduz, from 1996 to 1999. Since the beginning of 2000 he is self employed. He is member of the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. He serves also on several boards of directors (Swiss Federation of Raiffeisen Banks, PreBaServ AG, Steinbeis Transfer AG, and TvT Compliance AG). Since 1987 René Kästli is part-time professor at the University of St. Gallen. He was member of the Economic Committee of the European Free Trade Association from 1979 to 1996. From 1986 to 1996 he was head expert for economics and banking at the examinations for federally certified bank employees, from 1997 to 2002 member of the Committee of the same organisation. From 1997 to 1999 he was president of the board of directors of Liechtensteinische Landesbank (Schweiz) AG. From 1996 to 1999 René Kästli was member of the Liechtenstein Banking Association, 1999 its president. René Kästli is heavily involved in the creation of an integrated financial market authority in Liechtenstein (FMA). René Kästli is author of many articles in scientific journals and essays in newspapers. He was co-editor (together with Kurt Aeberhard) of the 5 volume piece "The Bank - Challenges for an Enterprise on various markets". |
